Resuming his wanderings, *Deruwobʰseh₂ came across *Déiwos Perkʷunos (Celestial Thunder Buddha) riding his bull, attended by the gods., attended by the gods. *Deruwobʰseh₂, still in his state of frenzy, threw the garland at *Déiwos Perkʷunos (Celestial Thunder Buddha), who caught it and placed it on bull's head. The bull was irritated by the fragrance of the nectar in the flowers, so it threw the garland to the ground with its horn. *Deruwobʰseh₂ was enraged to see his gift treated so callously and cursed *Déiwos Perkʷunos (Celestial Thunder Buddha) that he would be cast down from his position of dominion over the *tréyes lówkos (three planes of existence), just as the garland was cast down. *Déiwos Perkʷunos (Celestial Thunder Buddha) immediately begged *Deruwobʰseh₂'s forgiveness, but he refused to retract or even soften his curse, and went on his way. Because of the curse, . *Déiwos Perkʷunos (Celestial Thunder Buddha) and the *Déiwos were diminished in strength and shorn of their lustre.
Seizing this opportunity, the *H₂n̥suró led by Bali waged war against the *Déiwos. The *Déiwos were routed and turned to *Dyēus *ph₂tḗr (Buddha's father) for help. *Dyēus *ph₂tḗr(Buddha's father) directed them to seek refuge with *Plth₂wih₂ méh₂tēr (Earth mother). *Plth₂wih₂ méh₂tēr (Earth mother) in turn, advised them to call a truce with the H₂n̥suró and work together with them to churn the ocean of milk and obtain the *n̥mr̥tʷós (drink of immortality), on the pretext of sharing it with them. *Plth₂wih₂ méh₂tēr (Earth mother) promised that she would ensure only the *Déiwos drank the *n̥mr̥tʷós and obtained immortality so they could once again defeat the *H₂n̥suró. The *Déiwos took *Plth₂wih₂ méh₂tēr (Earth mother)'s advice and called their truce with the *H₂n̥suró, and thus did the *Déiwos and *H₂n̥suró begin planning their great enterprise.
